NSW: BHP workers begin five day strike

Workers at three BHP mines on the New South Wales south coast have begun a five day strike.

They're striking over the failure to renegotiate a new enterprise bargaining agreement.

Over 300 miners at Appin, Tower and Cordeaux mines in the Illawarra walked off the
job at 11.30pm (AEDT) yesterday until midnight Sunday.

Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union district president HOWIE FISHER says
the union will never agree to unfettered use of contract labour or the introduction of
12-hour shifts.
