Qld: Labor's Qld state secretary to resign
By Nikki Todd, State Political Correspondent
BRISBANE, April 8 AAP - Labor's Queensland state secretary Cameron Milner is expected
to resign from his position in the party today.
Mr Milner, who moved from Melbourne to Brisbane in 2000 to become the 15th state secretary,
is expected to tender his notice to party president Ron Monaghan today.
Premier Peter Beattie, who confirmed the move, said he would miss Mr Milner and wished
him good luck.
"I am going to miss him," Mr Beattie told Radio 4BC.
"Cameron has been a fantastic campaign director, he's been in the party now for about
12 years if you add up his service in other roles.
"He has been the campaign director for two of the best wins the party has ever had."
His resignation will come as a blow to Labor as it swings into action ahead of the
upcoming federal election, with Queensland expected to play a crucial role in the outcome
of the poll.
Mr Milner presided over Mr Beattie's two landslide wins, in 2001 and in February this
year, and was applauded for his use of local campaigning.
However, his successful record was tarnished at the recent local government elections,
when Labor lost its hold of the Brisbane City Council lord mayoralty.
Mr Beattie said Mr Milner, 32, who has a young wife, was intending to "get a job in
the private sector and get a life".
The premier said he did not expect Mr Milner to run for a position in the upcoming
federal election.
